A bit about me and my creative journey
Hello!
I’m Kelly, a watercolour artist based in Wiltshire specialising in creating detailed bespoke illustrations of special places, from homes and gardens to wedding venues and landscapes.
I started painting with watercolours a few years ago as a hobby and it quickly became something I absolutely loved to do. I began painting more and more, eventually starting an Instagram account to share my work in September 2024.
Soon after, a friend asked if I’d be open to a commission which turned out to be a lovely house portrait, and I realised how much I enjoyed working on paintings for other people and getting to create something they’ll love for years to come. More commission requests followed, and fast forward a year, I’ve now been fortunate to work on over 30 commissions, sold at local markets, and done my first exhibition!
I’ve also enjoyed dipping my toe into working with other mediums, working on wall art projects for local businesses, digitally creating a bespoke tattoo design, and creating a very special digital design for a clothing item which I can’t wait to share soon!
What began as a hobby has gradually turned into my little art business and a creative journey I continue to adore.
How it began
When I first started watercolour painting, I had no idea what my ‘style’ was. But now as I look back, I’m surprised at how different my painting is today! It seems I do have a style, and what I love most is capturing tiny details, focusing on quality over size.
I love using my tiniest 0.03mm fine liner and my narrowest brushes to incorporate all the details that make a place unique. From the textured bricks on a building to the intricate details of spring flowers in a garden bursting, there’s so much to see when we look closely.
Also being a yoga teacher through my other business Space to Balance, I love to incorporate mindfulness into how I spend my time, and I guess my approach to painting is an extension of that. I find a lot of peace in paying attention to what I’m painting and recreating it in my own way, especially when it’s meaningful to a client.
It’s important to me that you love the result, so I approach every commission with the commitment to getting it just right for you, so that it feels personal and extra special.
Finding my style
Recently I felt drawn to sharing with others the joy that watercolour painting brings me, so announced my first group watercolour workshops. These have focused on painting beautiful seasonal flowers, and I’m now planning more workshops for the autumn around different themes!
I’m so grateful to be able to do this as part of my work, and hope it can somehow bring you and those close to you some joy along the way too. If you have any questions about commissions, workshops or anything else, please feel free to get in touch anytime.
Thank you for being here!
