Allotment Through the Seasons
A four-part painted study capturing the changing atmosphere, colours, and rhythm of an allotment across the year
A Seasonal StudyThis project was completed in 2025 for clients who adore their allotment and spend a lot of time there throughout the year. It was a real pleasure to be asked to capture such a personal and well-loved space across the changing seasons.
They shared a wonderful set of reference photos for each season, documenting how the allotment shifts and evolves over the year. From these, they selected a favourite image per season to act as the main reference for each painting.
These carefully chosen photographs formed the foundation for the series, helping to capture not only the visual details of the allotment, but also its atmosphere at different points in the year.

The Painting ProcessAll four paintings were created as part of a single cohesive series, working through each season in one focused body of work. Each piece was designed in a square format and to a specific size for framing, ensuring they would sit together harmoniously as a set.
Although each season has its own distinct palette and mood, they were developed in parallel to maintain consistency in composition, tone, and overall feel across the series.

The Final SeriesThe finished collection captures the allotment through the changing seasons; light, colour, and growth shifting from one painting to the next. Together, the four works tell a story of a much-loved space and the time spent tending it throughout the year.
It was a joy to translate such a personal environment into a unified painted series that can be enjoyed as a complete set.
